Up a Mountain / Down a Beer

AVALANCHE!!!

Just kidding. Seriously if there was an avalanche during one of your backcountry adventures would you be prepared? Do you have the necessary equipment and more importantly do you know how to use it? Uncle Travelin’ Matt does and he has posted a great article on his blog about a great place to test your avalanche beacon skills. Check it out here. And if you ever run into UTM or Bumpy listen to what they they have to say and then offer to buy them a beer!

Thanks for the props. It’s not that I really want to wait in line to practice, but I would definitely like to see more people take advantage of the course. Eventually it could become a bit more of a meeting place for others that are backcountry inclined.

By the way, if you have no beacon but you are ready to invest in your own safety and progression, the Back Country Access (BCA) Tracker can now be found for around $220 from the right retailer. It isn’t fancy, but neither is your life so they compliment each other well.
