Front Range Fruita with Vance
This past weekend I took my class down to Pueblo Reservoir A.K.A. Front Range Fruita to sample this much acclaimed single track. And let me tell you it does not disappoint! I was able to contact Vance of Vance’s Bicycle World and he agreed to show us some of the rides in the area. I can think of no better source than from one of the guys responsible for building the trails.
The first trail Vance took us on was a rolling single/double track “Pedro’s Point” from the highway to a great overlook with a birds eye view of the reservoir. From there we had the option to ride Outer Limits or flip around and head back to the rigs. We chose the latter as we were eager to get to the south Marina for some lunch before our afternoon rides.
Now I want to make perfectly clear that the students ranged in ability from the newly introduced to the very familiar. And all had a great time on the trails seen here. I would also like to add that none of these awesome rides would have been possible with out Vance and the Southern Colorado Trail Builders.
As for the rest of the rides we only had time to get to a few more which included South Shore, Rock Canyon, Rollercoaster, Skull Canyon, and Conduit. The trails offered a great blend of loose rock gardens with great ledges and fast technical descents.
After the ride we headed over to Vance’s shop and checked out his wide variety of great bikes and gear this is definately a shop to support as Vance has a top notch crew and a constant smile on his face always eager to lend a hand whether with fitting your next bike, trouble shooting your cycling issues or for great advice as to local trails. Three cheers to Vance!!!
For maps you can print them off of the links above or go to the marina and grab the color coded maps free of charge.
The pics seen here were taken by Mtn Mama the first is Vance and the second is me on Skull Canyon. Mtn Mama took a ton of pictures and will have them up on our flickr page asap.
