Stonewall Century
In true Brittany style “Oops I did it again!” I am a sucker. I’m not sure if it is a learned behavior or genetic but I am always up for a challenge and these challenges often tax me to my limits, but leave me wanting more.
The latest commitment I made is to ride the Stonewall Century. Now I am not much of a roadie but I do enjoy riding and have put a fair amount of time down in the saddle. Anyhow I buddy of mine, (I’ll call him Goat due to his insane ability to climb the steeps with out so much as a heavy breath, all the while smoking and drinking), well Goat rides a fair amount both road and singletrack and he is well known for suckering more and a few of his friends into heinous rides. And it appears I am the latest victim.
So last week I pulled my wife’s old Italian steel Tomasini out of the root celler and dropped it of at the shop. And since I am now commited via cold beer and handshake I have decided I need to at least sit in the saddle prior to the Stonewall which incedentily is about a month away!!!
I am leaning more towards the 50 miler but if Goat has anything to say about it I will be cranking all 100 painful miles, no doubt finishing long after everyone else.
You can check out the route and elevation profile here.

Looks like fun- in a ‘lets get together and kick each other in the nuts’ kinda way.
Every year I look at the Stonewall Century and think about doing it but haven’t yet. This year it’s a week after the Leadville 100. I just started training for that 2 weeks ago and it’s going to be pure guts not fitness that get me through that. I’ll probably still be barely able to move the next weekend.
I hear you UltraRob, you will have to keep us posted on how you do this year. Hopefully I get my road bike back soon, I really really need to ride the road prior to the Stonewall. I mean I know I am in trouble since I haven’t been on a road bike in years but every moment I can crank between now and then will lessen the blow!!
