Free Training Log
I recently started running and although that really means nothing to you, to me it is just another potential item in a long set of Work Out Procrastination. I have never been a runner and my excuse is that I suffer from short legs and tend to be classed as a blend of an Ectomorph (which is not all that flattering) and Mesomorph (I personally don’t see it unless I use one of those wavy distortion mirrors you see at carnivals). For a better description here is a description of body types.
Growing up I never really got into the classic team games such as football, basketball, or soccer. Well I guess I did play soccer and baseball but to be honest, I sucked! Then I started wrestling and did pretty well, I eventually got a scholarship to an ACC college. But I decided to party down at Univ. of Fla and eventually Northern Arizona Univ. instead!
That is irrelevant to this post though. I guess what I was lacking was the fight. I need the competition against another individual more so than another team. And wrestling fit the bill. Running never really made sense to me, unless I was being chased. I have always been a burst athlete, never and endurance one. Trust me wrestling a full 6 minutes was really pushing it for me!
However, I now am trying to change that. I am dedicated, hell I have been running for a few months now off and on. And it all started through my love of beer!! That’s right, I found a local pub that offered free dinner and $2.50 pints if you run in their weekly 5k you also were given a nice wicking shirt if you completed 10 runs!!!
This fulfilled my needs, free food, cheap good beers, free shirt, good people!!! While opening my eyes to running I met a few other folks that have done a great deal of running and now I think I am hooked. I have signed up for my first 1/2 marathon and a 20 mile snowshoe race!!!
Wish me luck!!
O.K. now the point of this post. For me I think when I have a goal in mind I need a way to stay on track and the way for me to do that is to keep a record of my training. Fortunately a buddy of mine posted a link to a site that allows you to keep a training log free.
Runners World offers this great service and is paired with google maps so you can search for routes near you or plot your own. And this is not limited to running they have cycling, walking, swimming, and even a create your own section. The tools included in this free service are vast, you can log time, distance, weather, type of training all kinds of useful things.
If you are thinking of getting fit or starting a new exercise regimen or what ever give the free Runners World training log a go. I keeps everything for you and it feels great to see your progress.
Good luck and good training!

MapMyRun is another good one. It’s been around for a while and has a ton of runs submitted by people.
