AWAKEN
Time to get back into the swing of things!! That last post as Brownie pointed out was pretty pathetic, I guess I should stop the belly aching whining and just deal. So here it is, Since then I took a step back from the ‘puter (which was cathartic) and spent time outdoors hiking around and riding a bit. I also took some time to do nothing, no work no scheduled play no nothing. I threw my schedule out the door and wandered. I looked at the clouds and the wild flowers noticed the birds and abundance of lady bugs. I even relocated a few of the ladybugs onto my aspen where some aphids had taken hold and joyously watched the lady bugs feast!!! I also enjoyed a run-bike-run day. After all of this quiet time I have re-focused and now am back in the saddle.
That being said I have a few events scheduled in the near future:
- Summer Round Up 12K
- Ride the Monarch Crest Trail on the single speed
- Guide a trip up Mt Massive (Colorado’s 2nd highest peak)
- Race in the Pikes Peak Ascent
- Race my 1st marathon Xterra TRS
and way off in the future run a 50 and 100 miler. I am sure you are wondering where all of the cycling is and trust me it will be interspersed. I am not to sure of the racing this season but perhaps this fall. Goals are after all the next sunrise and the desert after the feast, but I usually just do things and rarely train. Hmmm on second thought I don’t think I have ever really trained. I am not suggesting this will change but I am attempting to at least focus and work towards the 50 and 100 mile goals.
Now that the fog of self loathing has lifted I also want to send out a book recommendation. I am currently reading Born to Run by Christopher McDougall. This book is an inspiring and wildly humorous look into the depths of a little known tribe of ultra running booze hounds hidden deep in Mexico’s Copper Canyon. Relatively unchanged for hundred of years this amazing tribe has managed to figure it all out using no money and having none of the major social issues that plague modern society this is a simple tribe of runners and drinkers and Christopher McDougall weaves an exceptional tale through this mystical tribe and their exceptional running ability. Dont think this book is only for runners, it was written to open the mind to the beauty and grace of the human machine in its finest form.
