The Great BPA Lie As Told By SIGG

Update: 09-08-09sigg Apology from SIGG CEO Steve Wasik

Sigg the Swiss bottle company has seen great interest in their steel water bottles since the great BPA outing. Riding the wave of fear, Sigg immediately and smartly so, marketed their pricey steel bottles as BPA free. And it makes sense seeing how BPA is a hardener found only in plastics, it has no place in steel.

However, I was wondering how they kept their bottles on the market when a lot of the fear came from the liners used in the lids of baby food jars and in canned veggies. I am sure you have noticed the white plasticized liner when you open your good old can of beans. If not you should check it out, because now low and behold Sigg steel water bottles were lined with BPA containing plastics!! GASP!!!! Fortunately Sigg has finally admitted their slight oversight and what do you know they have plenty of the new BPA free bottles ready to ship to you!

So here we have it. Plastic water bottle manufacturers were getting the royal “how’s your father” over the BPA thing all the while Sigg pouncing and proudly scooping up all of the eager folks begging for a bottle without BPA. And they themselves actually contained BPA.

Pretty lame in my opinion, at least the plastic companies were voluntarily ditching the BPA and never tried to fake the funk. I am certain they are however smirking with satisfaction at duping the masses for over a year and the cash they raked in sure doesn’t hurt either.

Shame on you Sigg!!

“I am not plastic.” No Sigg, you are not plastic. You are metal. You are mined from the ground by gigantic machines that puke pollution into the air and water, leaving permanent scars all across the land. You are melted and machined in factories that consume obnoxious amounts of energy, painted with chemicals of pretty colors, then sold to the consumer under the guise of being “eco-friendly.” No Sigg, you certainly are not plastic.
