Up a Mountain / Down a Beer

“COLD BEER” Shall Be Our War Cry!!!

Can it be? Is it true? That we here in the US are little girly drinkers? Well look at the data and it appears that we are middle of the pack when it comes to volume of beer consumed per person per week. UpaDowna reader Jerry recently brought this to my attention obviously nudging me on due to my lack of posts recently. In this surprising yet unofficial study Americans drink an average of 4.4 bottles of beer a week.

Country Bottles Per Person
Per Week
Czech Replublic 8.5
Ireland 7.1
Germany 6.3
Australia 6.0
United Kingdom 5.4
United States 4.4
Canada 3.7
South Africa 3.2
Mexico 2.8
Japan 2.8
Brazil 2.6
China 1.2

And for those of you that numbers makes no sense, here is a beer comparison.

beer-consumption-by-country

Yeah the U.S. is the last glass on the right on the top row which is just fine and furthers our split in thinking about if the glass is half empty or half full.

It appears the poll was taken by Japanese beer manufacturer Kirin and I think it was more than likely a means to try and get the Japanese to consider drinking more so as to be as “manly” as other countries. Otherwise this seems like it was a really bad idea and reflects on their inability to convince their own countrymen to hammer their swill.

I wonder how this test was done because I would think we would be much higher given the prevalence and popularity of keg stands and binge drinking in college age folks, but what do I know?!

Now get out there and drink!! COLD BEER!!!!

Thanks again Jerry and your stickers will be on their way soon.

your data only reflects beer is not the drink of choice…I am pretty sure we drink plenty…and if you stopped the average may be lower overall
