A Tragic End

Ranger Upton

U.S. Forest Service Office Christopher Arby Upton, was shot and killed in the early hours of March 5th 2010. He was on patrol in the Ocmulgee Bluff Equestrian Recreation Area on the Oconee Ranger District of the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest in Jasper County, GA. He was sadly mistaken for a coyote by two hunters using high powered rifles and night scopes, when they caught a glint reflecting from his binoculars. He is survived by his 4 year old daughter and his wife.  It’s very sad to hear of something like this. Please remember to be safe and responsible, we are all sharing the outdoors. R.I.P.

I’m sorry but if hunters can’t make a clean shot they shouldn’t be hunting!

What bothers me is the misidentification, human, coyote? You’re supposed to be sure of what you’re shooting at.
