Front Range Fruita
This weekend I am taking a group down to Pueblo Reservoir, CO for a late season single track session.
The plan is to head down there Saturday morning, stop in Vance’s Bicycle World so folks without gear can rent what ever they need. Then head out to the Reservoir and hit some of the single track. After the initial rides return back to the TH and BBQ then ride a few more in the afternoon prior to heading back north to Colorado Springs.
For those not keen on riding feel free to join us to hike some of these great trails.
Here is some more info about the riding in Pueblo including maps. And this is the Facebook group where I post upcoming events if you are interested. Hope to see some of you out there, and feel free to contact me if you need a ride and we will see what we can do.

LED Brake Pads for Bikes
I ran across a set of these Promax Ipad w/LED Brake Lights the other day in a local shop and thought this was a pretty neat idea. Given the rising fuel prices there has been recent influx of cyclists onto the streets. Predictably this has led to a greater number of automobile on bicycle collisions.
This little device may help wake-up drivers as to the presence of a cyclist on the road.
From what I could find these are only offered for V brakes but now that the idea is out there I am sure someone will come out with a style for disc as well a cantilever brakes. And there was no information as to the material the pads are made out of or the hardness of the pad. So I assume this was designed for the recreational commuter. Not for the warp speed racer!
These brake pads have a replaceable battery in the back of them to ensure years of use (or until the pad itself wears out. They are also reported to be weather proof. So no fear in poor weather.
There have been other designs of brake lights for bicycles such as the Nashbar Tail Brake Light as found on UltraRob’s site. The Tail brake light is meant to be mounted on the seat post and appears to be activated when the brake is depressed the circut is closed and thus illuminating the brake light (see pic).
I would recommend checking these out if you are a townie rider, remember any thing you can do to raise a driver’s awareness of you is a good thing.

Free Training Log
I recently started running and although that really means nothing to you, to me it is just another potential item in a long set of Work Out Procrastination. I have never been a runner and my excuse is that I suffer from short legs and tend to be classed as a blend of an Ectomorph (which is not all that flattering) and Mesomorph (I personally don’t see it unless I use one of those wavy distortion mirrors you see at carnivals). For a better description here is a description of body types.
Growing up I never really got into the classic team games such as football, basketball, or soccer. Well I guess I did play soccer and baseball but to be honest, I sucked! Then I started wrestling and did pretty well, I eventually got a scholarship to an ACC college. But I decided to party down at Univ. of Fla and eventually Northern Arizona Univ. instead!
That is irrelevant to this post though. I guess what I was lacking was the fight. I need the competition against another individual more so than another team. And wrestling fit the bill. Running never really made sense to me, unless I was being chased. I have always been a burst athlete, never and endurance one. Trust me wrestling a full 6 minutes was really pushing it for me!
However, I now am trying to change that. I am dedicated, hell I have been running for a few months now off and on. And it all started through my love of beer!! That’s right, I found a local pub that offered free dinner and $2.50 pints if you run in their weekly 5k you also were given a nice wicking shirt if you completed 10 runs!!! [Read more →]

Tour de France 2009 Route Change
As if the Tour de France needed to be any tougher, now Tour de France director Christian Prudhomme has unveiled the route for the 2009 Tour. Next year the worlds best cyclists will face a brutal change in strategy. The tour still promises the great climbs albeit a few less than in recent years, however the main change is the days of both the final climb as well as the time trails.
Starting July 4 in Monaco and ending July 26 in Paris, the Tour will cover 3,445 kilometers, or 2,140 miles, in a clockwise direction around France, with excursions into Spain, Andorra, Switzerland and Italy. [Read more →]
